Being near downtown means you can reach many trainers in a short drive. That lets you visit more than one program, meet the people who will handle your dog and see the space. Bring a list of questions, and take your time. Notice how dogs seem to feel, whether the space is clean and whether staff speak calmly. Trust what you see.
Ask how many dogs the trainer works with at once and who is on site during the day. A small number of dogs per trainer allows more individual time. Ask about overnight supervision, emergency plans and which veterinary clinic they use. Reasonable trainers have ready answers and are not offended by the questions.
Visiting policies vary. Some trainers welcome a mid-stay check-in, and others prefer no visits, since a visit can unsettle a dog. Ask which approach they take and why. Also ask how updates are shared. Photos and videos at set times are common, and they help you feel informed without disturbing the training.
General estimates for a two to three week stay run about $1,500 to $2,500 or more. Ask what is covered and what is extra. Compare with an obedience package at $500 to $1,200, or with in-home lessons at $100 to $200 per visit. Providers are not listed or ranked here; the questions are what matter.

Good questions
Before you begin.
Should I tour before booking?
If the trainer allows it, yes. It is one of the best ways to judge a program.
May I check in with my dog mid-stay?
Policies vary. Ask the trainer to explain theirs.
What should I ask about emergencies?
Which veterinarian they use, who decides on care and how you are contacted.
How do I compare programs?
Use the same questions for each, and compare the total price and what it includes.
