Dogs that travel poorly may arrive at the trainer already stressed. If your dog gets carsick or anxious, tell the trainer ahead of time and ask what they do on arrival. A calm first hour matters. Bring a familiar blanket and avoid a big meal before the ride. Keep goodbyes short and cheerful, because lingering can raise a dog's anxiety.
Ask about heat. Summers here are hot, and trainers should plan outdoor work for cooler hours, provide shade and water and have a plan for storms. Ask what the dog does indoors during the day, how often it gets a break and how the trainer decides when to stop. A thoughtful answer shows that the dog's comfort comes before the schedule.
Board and train works best when the owner is ready for the handoff. Consider who in the household will practice, where, and for how long each day. Ask the trainer to demonstrate each cue with you, not only with the dog. Take notes or video, and request written instructions to follow after the stay ends.
General estimates for two to three weeks run about $1,500 to $2,500 or more, with travel and extras possibly adding to it. Ask what is included and what costs extra, such as added days or vet visits. Results cannot be promised, and no program is put forward here.
