Think of a stay as the first half of a program. The second half happens in your own kitchen, on your own street, with every member of the household. Plan for it. Ask the trainer how long the handoff lesson lasts, who should come and whether kids can take part. Ask whether there are follow-up check-ins and whether they cost extra.
Families sometimes expect a dog to return fully trained. In reality, the dog returns with new skills, and the household needs to use them. The first week back is the most important. Keep the routine simple, repeat the cues the trainer used and avoid giving the dog free run of every room right away. Gradual freedom keeps habits intact.
Hixson streets and the river edge offer realistic places to rehearse. Walk the same short route each day for a few days, then change it. Practice a sit at the curb, a wait at the door and a come on a long line. Ask the trainer to describe the route they would suggest, and how to add distractions such as marinas or boat noise.
General estimates for two to three weeks are about $1,500 to $2,500 or more, and trainers set their own prices. Ask for a written agreement that lists what is included. Because no one can guarantee a result, favor the trainer who explains limits. No names appear in this section.

Good questions
Before you begin.
What happens in a handoff lesson?
The trainer shows you each cue and how to use it. You practice with the dog while they coach.
Can children take part?
Often yes, with guidance. Ask the trainer how to involve them safely.
How soon should I resume normal routines?
Gradually. Keep structure for the first weeks, then loosen it as habits hold.
Is a result certain?
No. Outcomes depend on the dog and on practice at home.
