Before you enroll, write the list of what you want to change. For lake households, it might be a reliable recall, calm behavior when guests arrive, quiet when a boat passes or staying out of the water on cue. Trainers can only plan what they hear. Tell them honestly what your dog does and which of those behaviors matter most.
Ask how a trainer would build a recall that holds near water. Good answers describe a long line, small steps and rewards, and they say that the dog will not be tested off leash near open water too soon. Ask about the trainer's access to realistic practice places, and whether they can mimic distractions like noises or visitors.
Harrison Bay State Park is close to many homes, so keep the handoff in mind. After the stay, you will want to practice near the places you actually use. The trainer should explain what the dog can and cannot do yet, and how to build up gradually. Check the park's posted rules before taking the dog out.
Typical general estimates for a two to three week stay are about $1,500 to $2,500 or more. Ask if handoff lessons are included and where they happen. Compare with obedience packages, which keep the dog home. Results depend on the dog and on your follow-through; the page leaves names out.

What goals should I list?
The two or three behaviors that matter most, such as recall, greetings and quiet indoors.
